2003

Artificial Wisdom. Coined the term during my MSc in Computer Science: AI as an ethically grounded, self-regulating system rather than a faster processor. Written up in AI’s Next Frontier (2023) and How DeepSeek Unleashed Pandora’s Box (2025).^7,8

2006

Urdu language computing. Led the Urdu Lexicon, machine translation and text-to-speech project as Project Director at Pakistan’s Electronic Government Directorate, Ministry of IT & Telecom, with research led by Dr Sarmad Hussain at CRULP; its outputs fed Urdu support later adopted by Microsoft in Windows and Office.¹

2008–2010

A multilingual internet. With my late brother Imran Ahmed Shah, founder of the Urdu Internet Society and the Internet Governance Forum of Pakistan, took part in ICANN’s IDN ccTLD Fast Track policy development as Pakistan pressed for country-code domains in native scripts. Imran, an ICANN Fellow at the Seoul meeting in 2009, proposed and secured the removal of the two-letter limit on IDN country-code domains and a waiver of the US$26,000 application fee for developing economies. He died in December 2019.^{2–5, 11–16}

2014

Firearm safety. Invented a biometric and IoT firearm safety system in response to the Peshawar school attack; US patent granted 2015 (US 9,222,743); cited by Sturm, Ruger & Company.^6,9

2017–2021

Social protection at scale. Envisioned and led the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry and the Khidmat and Sehat card programmes as Director MIS at the Punjab Social Protection Authority.⁹

2023

AI agents with voice and video. Shipped AIA Video CallGPT, a real-time voice and video AI agent, demonstrated at STEP Conference Dubai in February 2023, months before comparable capability reached the mainstream.^9,10

2025

A standard for a new profession. Created the Certified Forward Deployed Engineer (CFDE), the first structured certification for the Forward Deployed Engineer role, a role whose postings grew 729 per cent in a year on Indeed’s count.¹⁷
